Volunteering at the Portland Centre Charity Shop
We need dedicated Volunteers who would like to support the Portland Centre’s work which is offering, free advice, guidance, information, support and counselling to our community, by working in our own Charity Shop situated on Fortuneswell.
The Charity Shop was founded in 1997 and supports the Portland Centre funds from its’ profits. It is a very important asset to the Portland Centre and it is vital that the Shop Volunteers are dedicated and ready to sell, sell, sell.
Karen is the Supervisor in the shop (is lovely), she keeps an overall eye on the day to day running of the shop, sorting out the rota, which we try to make fit to each Volunteer. Usually, Volunteers pledge to do half a day, Monday to Friday, although some Volunteers do whole days and multiple of half days.
Your Duties at the Portland Centre Charity Shop would be:
- Selling goods
- Sorting donations of clothing, electrical items, books etc.
- Steaming Clothes
- Tagging item for sale with Date and Price
- Window Arrangements
- Cleaning the Shelves
- Hoovering the Floor
- Accounting for the takings at the end of the day
- Opening and Closing Procedures
Don’t worry – you will receive full in-house training and on-going support.
If this type of Volunteering sounds interesting to you then contact Gill on 824333 or by email and we will be contacting you as soon as possible.
We look forward to welcoming you to our happy team.
