Steve Case Study
Steve came to the Portland Centre to discuss his financial problems, which were easily solved. After a few visits Steve began to open up and let out the odd hint that all was not right at home. When he felt safe, he told a Portland Centre a very sad tale of the domestic violence he suffered every few days from his partner, who was always very sorry afterwards. At first he tried to help her seek help for her rage, but soon found it was less dangerous to stay quiet and try to be inoffensive. He could not leave her, because he was frightened for his children, how would he get custody away from a seemingly loving Mother. He felt trapped and frightened. We immediately believed him and congratulated him on his strength of character in not striking back.
We discussed his options from mediation to Court Injunctions. He tried to suggest mediation which resulted in a beating. So we took him the next day to the hospital to log his injuries and then he saw our Solicitor, who brought the full force of the law against his perpetrator. He now lives peacefully with his children in a bright, sunny flat. Counselling was set up for Steve and the kids to help them deal with the fall-out and the children have supervised visitation with their Mother. He will never forget the fear, frustration and self-worthlessness but he is learning to live with it and now offers support to other men who deal with someone else’s rage, on a daily basis.
